Below are the team’s updates for weeks 6 to 7 of 2025. First, as always, let’s introduce the fantastic team and what we’re building.
The Team
The Observability Core team at Canonical consists of Leon (Manager), Jose, Luca, and Mike.
Together with the Tracing and Profiling and Service Mesh teams, we form the full Observability team, managed by Simme.
Our goal is to provide you with the best open-source observability stack possible, turning your day-2 operations into smooth sailing.
The Work
Fixes
- Various dashboard issues, where charmed dashboards disappear, or still exist after charm removal, were fixed (grafana, grafana-agent).
- A bug in dashboard template handling that was affecting the nrpe dashboard was fixed.
- Another repo - grafana-agent - was migrated to our brand new CI v1.
New features
- Forwarding of charmed alert rules can now be disabled at all the aggregation points (prometheus, loki, grafana-agent, cos-proxy, scrape-config; usage example: avalanche).
- up/absent generic alert rules are now auto-injected at all the aggregation points.
- Charmed dashboards are now automatically tagged with the charm name, e.g.
charm: loki-k8s. - We introduced our new approach to testing rocks in the otelcol repo.
