Here are some of the works of the mighty Observability Core team from weeks 50 and 51 of 2025, corresponding to pulse 25.
The Team
As always, a quick reminder on our team members! On the Core team we have:
Together with the Tracing and Profiling and Service Mesh teams, we combine to create the greater Observability team, managed by Simme.
The Work
We made a fix to the way the context is received in cos-tool.- We have modified our naming conventions for certain components in the Opentelemetry Collector machine charm so we can avoid duplication issues. This improvement is especially important for components that bind to specific ports, for example, as this new naming convention enables the snap to successfully perform deduplication.
- Another Otelcol machine fix: we have updated our logic to guard against CA cert refreshes on specific hooks.
- Importantly, we have backported all critical fixes into our track 2 stack
There have been some updates to our docs due to the addition of new features in previous pulses. We have ensured those are reflected in our track 2 docs as well.
We continued the work needed to update our CI and ensure that our collector charms (Grafana Agent and the new shiny Opentelemetry Collector) are released for all platforms including S390xandppc64el. This necessitates some changes such as the release of the corresponding rocks and snaps for said platforms, which are in progress!
