Juju Workshop: No-bullshit observability with Dwellir and COS
In this workshop, you will see how Dwellir leverages the Canonical Observability Stack Lite to monitor thousands of centralized and edge systems.
We will show how Juju, cross-model relations, and cross-controller relations can be used to reach even the most remote deployments. Full disclosure - rough edges - weโre still working on it.
Dwellir is one of the leading providers of blockchain infrastructure globally, deploying several hundred Juju models across the world and observing both machine charms and Kubernetes workloads in this way.
What we will present
In this workshop, we will cover how to:
-
Stand up a Canonical COS Lite deployment in a public cloud, including:
- Grafana
- Loki
- Prometheus
- and more
-
Wire in edge deployments using cross-controller relations and cross-model relations.
-
Connect machine or Kubernetes deployments from remote environments, including infrastructure behind firewalls.
-
Use deployed data sources together with Grafana Cloud and Private Data Source Connect.
-
Secure logs and metrics streams.
-
Present the finance perspective:
- Does this make economic sense?
- Spoiler alert: yes, it does.
-
Answer your questions.
What makes this blueprint special?
This pattern combines:
- Local observability deployments
- Edge and remote deployments
- Secure log and metric streaming
- SaaS, private, and public data sources
- A scalable architecture that does not blow up your cloud bill
The stack
Join Dwellir for a Juju community workshop where we will walk you through a deployment using:
AWS
Juju
MicroK8s
Prometheus
Loki
Grafana
Cross-controller and cross-model relations
โฆ and some more.
What to expect
There will be a lot of charm magic, a lot of technical depth, and plenty of observability.
There may even be a few:
โWait, that actually works?โ
moments.
We will go from infrastructure to a working setup, explain how the pieces connect, what to watch out for, and why this pattern becomes very interesting when you want observability across multiple Juju environments.
