Define default container type for lxd cloud model

Is it possible to define a default container type of virtual machine for a model or controller for LXD cloud?

Today juju only supports lxd containers with the LXD cloud, kvm is not supported via LXD.

what about the --vm option? Is there no way to pass that on by default?

Okay, I think this issue addresses that: Remove KVM provider and use LXD --vm

Suggest you update the bug with your wish to used that functionality. Give the bug some attention. Until more people make a request, it will not be addressed quickly.
