In Data Platform we have recently been working on a new Cassandra charm that provide consistent UX with the other DP products (see github repo here). The charm is now at decent stage (with deployment, encryption and authentication supported) for which we would like to have it available (still unlisted) on Charmhub.
We have noticed that a Cassandra charm already exists (see here), so we would like to be added as collaborator such that we can also push to a separate track to be orthogonal to the currently existing latest track. Since the Cassandra version we have been developing against is v5, we would like to name the new track with 5/, consistently with what is done for other DP charms.
The charmhub space is currently owned by Cassandra charmers, but I’m not sure how to reach out to the maintainer to make sure they are aware of this request. Could you help us on this too?
The first approach I would say is to reach out to the maintainer. I checked the database for their email, but they have not given that.
I do see on the LP page, they are a part of IS-charms, so maybe reaching out to them helps.
Also there is a Ask a question, on the LP page for cassandra-charm, so raising the requests over there might also be helpful.
I’m from IS and we’re currently the owners of the charms.
Given ongoing work, it’s fine to give that control back to Data Platforms.
I would appreciate that IS keep write permissions for now as the old charm is going to be used for some time still in production and we want to be able to push a change in the right channel, but any further development is going to be on Data Platform side in the end.
Yes, I believe in DP we are also using the framework elsewhere (e.g. postgresql) that DP is owning the charm and issuing token to dedicated teams to push to given tracks.
Could you please also create a TGR for track of the kind major/risk ? The track we will need to create first is probably going to be the 5/* one, so a \d+ would probably be all right for now.
